Title: DS vs. PSP

beat89 - June 4, 2007 04:46 AM (GMT)
Continuing a discussion that started in the c-box. Debate which is better, DS or PSP.

I own both, and I think DS is the superior system, mostly because it has many more awesome games. PSP's library is a bit sparse.

DS hands down.
Innovation to the max.

Only thing I want a PSP for is FF7: Crisis Core

Kakashi Elite - June 4, 2007 05:17 AM (GMT)
I said what I had to say in the c-box, not re-typin it on the psp. Point Blank: PSP slaughters the DS even if you dont own a memstick :P

Akatsuki - June 4, 2007 02:53 PM (GMT)
PSP

SasukeUchiha - June 4, 2007 02:57 PM (GMT)
PSP hands down. I agree with Kakashi Elite

Jounin Elite - June 4, 2007 05:51 PM (GMT)
DS. I don't have a real reason for not liking the PSP, I just don't :P.

The DS is built for younger kids around 13, and the PSP for older teens who want to utulize all of its abilities and who will know how to use it. Thats why the PSP is so complex with tons of features while the DS only plays games, Wow big whoop there and o maybe you use wifi but only when someones next to you thats gay. PSP has full internet browser, I started NarutoAfterlife, built it, maintained it, everything until I got a comp. DS SUCKS!!!!!!

Lol. PSP is so ridiculously counter-intuitive it's funny. Especially with movies, you have to jump through so many hoops to get them on there, and it doesn't even play in full 16:9 aspect ratio, and music only goes one folder deep, making it hard to keep things organized.

The question is this: Did you buy a PSP for multimedia, or gaming? Because if you bought it for gaming, you'll likely be disappointed by the barren library. Sure, it has a few good games, but many of them are console ports or scaled down version of previous games.

If you want a gaming system to GAME, the DS is the way to go. Lol at your 4 kids comment XD Resident Evil, Touch the Dead (Great title, I know :P) Trauma Center, Pheonix Wright, Final Fantasy. All great games geared at the older crowd. And that's just scratching the surface.

DS has an amazing library, and it's only getting better as time goes on. I have two titles I'm looking forward to buying for my PSP (God of War:CoO, FFVII: Crisis Core) and tons for my DS (Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword, Picross, Geometry Wars, Zelda: PH, Jam Sessions, Dragon Quest IX, Final Fantsy: Ring of Fates)

Simply put: DS is the system for gamers, and the PSP is the system for technophiles and multimedia.

I agree with Beat. DS is the way to go. Not only is it cheaper (Even the newer one), but it has games geared for everyone. Nintendo has always known to please everyone in tis crowd. Also... DS is definately NOT geared towards younger audiences... Because:

1.) It's sales are STILL better than PSP

2.) Nintendogs, which looks like a kiddie game, is played by adults and even older teenagers. Trust me, people play that game.

3.)Pokemon man. Pokemon lol.

hey!! i'm 13  !!!

besides, i agree with beat, hands down!! (i know lots of people that play animal crossing: wild world, and none that plays some simple PSP game) who needs PSP when we live on the computer age.... DS ROCKS!!! HANDS DOWN!!!

Kakashi Elite - June 4, 2007 11:26 PM (GMT)
You guys are hilarious, like I said you like it because your 13 and cant handle the complexity of the PSP, so you go and get a little DS that ONLY plays games. So yes I did get the PSP for multimedia and i can play your little DS games on my PSP anyways going along with N64, PS1, you name it. GBA, GBC, SNES, everything! Its called emulators! The PSP just rapes the DS completly :P

Arch - June 4, 2007 11:43 PM (GMT)
you got a point, emulators pwns, but the hardware of the PSP stores less things than a real computer, besides, they wasn't released on brazil... yet

Kakashi Elite - June 4, 2007 11:56 PM (GMT)
Oh that sucks. And basically the only thing the DS has over the PSP is games but i still dont fully agree with that either because alot of the games have bad graphics. Like Pokemon, and the PSP graphics rock! Well in most games at least :P

Zakou - June 5, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
Dude. Just so you know I'm 17, turning 18 in like two weeks, and I play the DS, preferring it over the PSP. PSP isn't that good. Not to mention a shorter lifespan. The ONLY thing PSP has is better graphics, that's the only thing. I'm tech savvy, and I still prefer the DS to the PSP. I wouldn't mind owning a PSP, but the DS is just better. There's so much fun #### you can do with the touchscreen its amazing =)

Why run music on the psp, when you can have an Ipod? That doesn't make much sense at all. Also, watching movies on the psp is silly, especially since you have to watch movies under two hours long. *sigh*

Edit: Oh, and this is about PSP Vs. DS, not Emulators vs. DS.

Pyro - June 5, 2007 12:08 AM (GMT)
the only good thing about the psp is that it has better graphics and it can handle movies

Little tip big guy. Most people buy video game systems to... *GASP* Play games. I do own a PSP, but due to the lack of compelling software I haven't touched it in a while aside for the occasional match of Tekken: DR. DS on the other hand, I play to death since it has so many games I like.

PSP has graphics on DS, but that's about it. I just generally prefer the DS.

And good luck using the touch screen on that DS emulator XD

Jounin Elite - June 5, 2007 01:19 AM (GMT)
Actually, DS emulators are hardly worth it anyway, you can't run most games on them, and those that you can, you generally can't get past a certain point :P.

Keimatsu - June 5, 2007 01:20 AM (GMT)
DS. No contest. I agree with everything beat has said. And yeah, KE, I'm 16. I play DS. A lot. I'm playing Pokemon Diamond nowadays. And it's amazing. What games does PSP have? Either ports/spinoffs of games that are already on the PS2, or games that suck. And I already have a PS2, so I'm covered in that department.

Sure, you can go on the internet and watch movies with the PSP, but there's this thing called "the laptop" which is a much better way to do those things and the music capability, too.

And come on. The touch screen was an ingenius idea. Sure, it doesn't work for some games, but for most games it does. And those games include classics like Super Mario 64 DS, the Castlevania series, Elite Beat Agents, and Metroid Prime Hunters. So overall, I'd say the DS is better.

Plus, DS is region free, which means it can play imported Japanese games like Jump Super Stars (which is amazing, by the way) without extra add-ons. Can the PSP do that? I think not.

Edit: Oh, and I've used the WiFi with Mario Kart DS to play with 3 other people from around the world. :)

beat89 - June 5, 2007 02:09 AM (GMT)
Actually, Keimatsu, the PSP is region free as well. And harboring quite a decent stable of import games.

Keimatsu - June 5, 2007 04:38 PM (GMT)
Oh damn. Well, just ignore that point then. All the other points are true :P.

I beg to differ JE. I've gotten myself no$gba, the best DS emulator so far. It runs most DS ROMs. Trust me on this. I've been able to play Digimon Story: Sunburst and Super Robot Wars W on it with slight sound problems.

I would've gotten a PSP, but that messed up joystick thing hurts. It sucks that they won't move Ace Combat X to the PS2 or 3.

Still DS pwns.

Oh and Kakashi Elite, you might want to cool your jets a bit in debate topics and vs. topics. You're getting extremely annoying and becoming extremely belligerent. Look that up in the dictionry Mr. I-Have-No-Idea-What-Pi-Is.

Axl - June 7, 2007 02:53 AM (GMT)
Well I hav owned both systems...My PSP broke awhile back so when that happened I got a DS..and I must say...I do like the DS SO Much better. Probably the main reason of that is the new pokemon...I mean I've been a big fan of the Pokemon GB games since the original Red/Blue and now that it's o DS and I can wirelessly kick some Japanese kid's ass in it...It makes me instantly fall in love with the DS. Not to mention its countless other capabilities and game titles exclusive to it.

i have to go for the DS because Nintendo are Retro handheld geniuses and the DS proves the point with revolutionary Game pLay experiances smae as Wii (even if i own 360)
