Okay, since those both suck, DA is a:
Community of artists. When you register, you get your own page. This has a limited degree of customability, but it is mainly to show off your art. You have a journal you can post in, and people can post comments on your page. But, when you finish an art peice, you can submit it to your gallery. Both your newest and your featured peice show up on your page, so people visiting can take a quick look at your art. They can post comments on any peice you submit, and can also add them to their favorites, which is a way of showing that they like your peice. It also adds a link to your aret on their page.
Basically, it's a place to show off art in a great community that knows it's stuff and is really nice and respectful.
