Title: Recreation

For those folks who may make a stay of a couple of days, here are some suggestions made by one of our favorite KZoo fans, with research done by SportzFan, for things to do while in Rockford.

PARKS

See, for the life of me, I am clueless when it comes to winter activities, because other than watching hockey my favorite winter activity is staying inside and keeping warm! So you folks will have to help me out with outside suggestions for the winter. The only things that come to mind, based on others' suggestions, are sledding and ice fishing. I don't know where to go sledding, but I believe you can go ice fishing at Rock Cut State Park.

In fact, let's start there. The above link to Rock Cut lists activities for all seasons.

Another site that might help you out in looking for activities for all ages is www.rockfordparkdistrict.org

(I'll update this post with additional park information...keep checking back)

MOVIE THEATRES

Showplace 16 (Rockford)
Showplace 14 (Machesney Park)
(note: the map for Showplace 14 is incorrect, by the address is right. If you want to go to S14, just drive north on Perryville Road until it stops. S14 will be on your right. You can't miss it because there's nothing else up that way.)
Colonial Village Cinema
North Towne Cinema
(This is our $1 theatre. The movies are a couple months older, but they all cost $1 to see.)

PUBLIC ICE SKATING
Carlson Ice Arena
Riverview Ice House

If anyone wants to go skating - take me with! I haven't skated since I was a little, little kid, and the wife doesn't want to go (she's got a good reason; I'm not dissing her). :iceskate:

Plus, Google found a place called Skateland, but I've never heard of it and don't know anything about it (other than it's roller skating). Someone will have to let us know about this place.
Another roller skating rink is Skate Co on N. Main St.

BOWLING ALLEYS

Bowling alleys are quite popular in Rockford.
Don Carter Lanes
(Don Carter gets my wife's seal of approval; she bowls league there every Sunday night.)
Cherry Bowl
Park Lanes
Forest Hills Lanes

I've never been to the rest of these, so again, someone else will have to comment:
B&B Park Bowl
West-Mor Lanes
