Recently two elderly friends, one in GA, and the other in NC were telling me that they had been contacted by an insurance company promising benefits they fell short on... Both of these dear souls willing GAVE UP their Medicare and one gave up her Medicaid benefits for this policy....They were promised FULL prescription benefits where they would have no co pay, their doctor visits would be paid in full and they would have NO DEDUCTIBLE and all of this for less than what the Medicare monthly premiums were...
My friend from NC said she tried getting her medications and was refused as they were not covered, then she started getting collection calls from her doctors... This insurance was not paying anything..... Mary tried numerous times to contact the company and was always "put" off... Finally, she got in touch with someone and wanted to cancel her policy only to be told that she couldn't cancel... She could only change, or cancel her policy during an enrollment period which wouldn't be until Jan. of 2008.... She finally spoke with Medicare and Social Security and FINALLY got them to help her get this other insurance canceled... She has been able to have her Medicare reinstated and they will go back and pick up, her doctor bills that this other did not pay...
This other lady has been made to believe that she has no choice... Unfortunately, I don't know any of her family or I would talk to them and see if they can't help her to get this resolved... Mrs. Virginia is probably in her mid 80's and not in really good health and she doesn't know what is going on... My helping her is limited as I am not family and it is not any of my business, but I hate to see her scammed in such a way.... If any of you want to know what company this is, PM me and I will tell you... I'm not sure about putting it here, for legal reasons, but... IF you have elderly family or friends, warn them to NOT cancel their Medicare benefits for anyone.... Or if they insist on doing so, then YOU or some family member look into this for them.... Remember, "if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is..."
Also, Miss Virginia thinks her Social Security check has been cut so much per month, but it is the premium for this other insurance....
  those insurance agent will be better off wil a milstone hung on their necks.
