Well, I’ve been brewing an idea for a fanfiction/original fiction contest for some time now, and I’m very proud to present—

The First Annual Fanart Forum Fiction Contest:
This is a wonderful idea for gaining more writers to this site! I love it! While there will be no actual money/item prizes awarded to the winners of this contest (because I’m cheap AND poor), there will be art prizes awarded to the Grand Prize winner of each section. All art will be done by hand (by me, and whoever wants to contribute), and be made only for the said winners. The prizes will be displayed (in the Past Winner’s section), but they will feature a ‘copyright’ mark, so that no one will be able to take them. All submissions and writers will be put up in the Past Winners section of the forum as well, in addition to this thread.

Since this is a fiction contest, the deadline will be greatly extended (until August 20th, 2006). If you have any questions regarding submission details, please PM me. Do not clutter up this thread. This thread is ONLY for updates (by me), and submissions. If you choose to submit your story here, please UNCHECK the box in your post for signatures. This forum will be picture-free ^_^.


Guidelines for submissions:

1. All submissions must be either uploaded through Fanfiction.net, MediaMinor.org, or this site (via Post Options). Any other third party link will not be accepted, and the post/submission will not qualify. You may post your submission here, in this contest thread, and/or Email me the link to your story via this email address:

2. For each submission, regardless of how you submit it, please follow this format to the T:

4. *Please rate your story following the rating guidelines below:

P=Pre Teen—This is for children ages 3-12. No swearing, violence, sexual situations/tension, and/or adult situations can be inside your story. Please keep the story geared towards this age group. Basically, think children’s stories.

A=All audiences—For ages (3-99). This includes stories that can be enjoyed by EVERYONE, including small children and adults. Now, this isn’t like the pre-teen rating in that, instead of gearing it toward only small children, you can make a wholesome story for anyone (even adults). No swearing, graphic violence, or explicit adult situations allowed. Think Bambi.

T=Teen—Not suitable for people under the age of 13. Stories under this rating may include violence (not graphic), and some swearing (let’s keep it to a couple of words per chapter….and not the F word). Don’t test me—if I read your work, and it is labeled ‘T’ when it should be more like a ‘Y’ or an ‘M’ because of explicit swearing, I will delete the post. Think Harry Potter (the first couple of books…)

Y=Young Adult—Stories under this category are geared towards ages 13-17. There may be violence (graphic to an extent), language (please refrain from doing this every other word….), and adult situations. Basically, these stories are more mature than the rest, but still don’t venture into the explicitly mature area….Think Lord of the Rings…

M=Mature—Now, I’ve said before that NO hentai will be permitted, but…that doesn’t mean sexual situations (as long as they are not graphic…or hentai) are not allowed. This category is aimed for adults, 18 and older. Stories falling under this rating may use extremely dark situations, graphic violence, strong language, adult situations (nakedness included), sexual situations, and sexual tension. DO NOT ADD HENTAI. If your style of writing is geared toward the older crowd, this is the rating to give your story. Think The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice.

5. Spell-check and proof-read your work BEFORE submitting it to this contest. Small errors will be overlooked, but if I see you just didn’t bother to check your story out of laziness, I’ll send you a PM requesting you do so. If I can’t read it at all (or if it violates the rules), then it won’t be considered. You may also see this thread, for any questions/helpful tips you may have regarding fan-fiction/original work.

Here is the breakdown of contest categories by type:

Stand Alone Complex:
One-shot works should be submitted under this section. Any and all genres, ratings, types*, and fandom’s may be included in this section. Even Original stories.

*If you submit your story here, it must be labeled ‘One-Shot’ where it says type along with any other type it falls under. All stories under this section MUST be one chapter, at least 1000 words, and be self-contained.

Sing me a Lullaby:
Songfics can be submitted under this category. Songfics can be any length, genre, fandom (even original), and type*. A songfic must have lyrics to a song blended into the story somehow to be considered a songfic. How you go about doing this, and the style you choose are up to you.

*Must have ‘songfic’ listed under type, in addition to whatever else you choose.

What Would Happen Next?:
Continuation fics based on any fandom or genre may be submitted under this category. Due to the nature of this section, original works will not qualify. Continuations fictions must be more than 1000 words, and any length (in terms of chapters). Unfinished works (at least one chapter must be finished) can be submitted. Continuation fictions pick up after the series ends, and takes it a step further. Original characters are always welcome.

Must have Continuation listed under type, in addition to any other types your story falls under.

A Whole New World:
Alternate Universe Fictions based on any fandom or genre may be submitted under this category. Stories must be at least 1000 words, but can be any length (chapter wise). Unfinished works can also be submitted, providing at least one chapter is done. Alternate Universe fictions take the characters from an anime, and throw them into a different timeline/plot. Characters take on different roles and act accordingly. Due to the nature of this category, Original stories will not qualify.

Must have Alternate Universe listed under type, in addition to any other types your story falls under.

Completely On Your Own:
Original stories, regardless of rating, genre, and/or length (chapter wise) can be submitted under this category. Stories can be unfinished, but must at least be 1000 words to be qualified. Original stories CAN NOT be based on any anime, book, movie, and/or game. They must be your own creation. Original Characters, plotlines, backdrops (with the exception of historical fictions), and ideas are only permitted under this category.

Must be only marked Original under type to be submitted to this category. All other types do not qualify.

A Fork in the Road:
Divergence fictions may be submitted underneath this section. Stories falling underneath this category may be based on any fandoms, genres, ratings, and other types (besides original). Story must be at least 1000 words total, but can be any length chapter wise. Unfinished stories can also be submitted, provided they are at least 1000 words. Divergence fics take place after a certain part of an anime; where the characters go one way (and end up at one place in time/plotline)—but you as an author show what would have happened if things would have been different. What would have happened if they chose the other way? That’s your job^_^.

Fictions submitted underneath this category must be marked ‘Divergence’ underneath type (in addition to any others) in order to be considered.

When Two Worlds Meet:
Crossover stories may be submitted underneath this category. All fandoms, genres, and ratings qualify. Stories can be any length chapter wise (even unfinished), but must be at least 1000 words total to be considered. Due to the nature of this category, original stories can not be submitted. Crossover fictions must feature AT LEAST two fandoms to be considered. Crossover fan-fictions mesh two different anime together. They may include original characters, storylines/plotlines, and/or settings.

Fictions submitted under this category must be labeled ‘Crossover’ (in addition to any other types) to be considered.

You + Anime=SI Fic:
Self-Insertion fictions fall under this category. All ratings, fandoms, genres, and lengths (chapter wise) can be submitted. Unfinished stories may be submitted, but their total length must be at least 1000 words to qualify. Self-Insertions stick you (and/or your friends) into your favorite anime—giving you the chance to interact with your favorite characters. Due to the nature of this category, Original fictions will not qualify.

Fictions submitted underneath this category must be labeled ‘Self-Insertion’ (in addition to any other types) in order to qualify.

A Scene in Time:
Vignette fictions may be submitted to this category. All ratings, fandoms, genres, and lengths (chapter wise) may be considered. Total length of story must be at least 1000 words to qualify. Vignette fictions take a single occurrence in an anime, and draw it out—exploring and analyzing the scene (can be in the point of view of a character) in an in-depth manner. Due to the nature of this category, Original fiction can not be submitted.

Fictions submitted underneath this category must be labeled ‘Vignette’ to qualify. No other types can be included, with the exception of One-Shots.

You may use already-made fanfiction/original stories for this contest. You need not create a new story just for this contest, unless you want to.
