Liverpool's out-on-loan forward Anthony Le Tallec managed to net past his Anfield team-mate Scott Carson on Friday night but it wasn't enough to earn France under-21s a win against their England counterparts at White Hart Lane.
Le Tallec, who is currently spending a season-long loan spell with Sunderland, scored in the 47th minute of the UEFA European u21 Championships qualifying play-off first leg.
The French youngster played a neat interchange with Jimmy Briand inside the box before coolly slotting the ball past Carson into the corner of the net, only to then see a late Darren Ambrose strike rescue a draw for the home side.
Le Tallec and Carson played the full 90 minutes of the match, while Florent Sinama-Pongolle and John Welsh were unused substitutes for their respective teams.
The second leg is in Nancy, France, on Tuesday.
