EJ had stayed on at the hospital, checking and sitting every so often with Sami when the various medical personnel had were done with the continual poking and proding. As he sat with her now listening to her sleep, and every so often pausing to look at her and move a stray lock of hair he tried to not think about his part in this.
"I could have lost you in my fight for you..and Lucas may still be a problem to overcome!'. EJ had often mused over Samis strength of will in her quest to become Austin's bride, but she was not in the same league as him. EJ had never lost a woman he wanted, unless he chose to lose. He was as crafty as Sami, but with a much more developed sense of all the dynamics of the hunt. He was never blinded by emotion as she tended to be.
Kate's voice had been whisperingly sultry as she sought his help in breaking up Sami and Austin..."just get her into bed, you'll enjoy it, I'm sure she'll enjoy it, and I know I will definitely enjoy it!"....But EJ had known that was absolutely the wrong strategy to get Sami away from Austin.
"Kate", he had explained, " Sami is not going to be unfaithful to Austin. Something in her makeup or history or whatever it is tells her that no matter what else she does, she will not cheat on her lover. You might find it easier to make Austin cheat on her. I think you say Carrie and Austin are still in love with each other...and my observances back that up...why not arrange for them to make Sami want to call it off?"
Kate had looked at him as if he had gone off the deep end! "Lucas is married to Carrie, he is happy..I will not do anything to jeopardize that..what kind of a mother do you think I am?"
"The kind who does not want her son married to Sami. Which kind of makes me wonder..I mean, you have one son married to a woman who is having another mans biological child while being very happy about it, that would be Belle and Philip I believe and you have another son married to a woman who is in love with his brother, and was willing to commit adultery the second day of her marriage. Yes Kate, Carrie and Austin had sex the day after she married Lucas! I saw them! .But Sami, what has she done except fall in love with two of your sons?"
"Are you telling the truth?" Kate did not seem surprised, but she did want verification.
"Yes Kate, it's the truth. I helped them cover before Lucas and Sami found out, not that I cared if Lucas found out, but I did not want to be the proverbial messenger of bad news to Sami. I care a great deal about her".
"So you're telling me that if she can find out about them without you being the one to tell, you would be ok with that?"
"Most assuredly". And from that moment the plot had taken shape. Kate knew Lucas was taking Will away for the weekend, so the timing was perfect. It had all worked so perfectly, except for the fact that Sami was such a bad driver! Now EJ knew he had been responsible for her almost being killed, and it was going to take some time to overcome those guilt feelings. But he was sure he could do it, after all, he had more to be guilty about than this!
