Gambit has also been shown to be very cunning and willing to pick and choose his battles if possible. Hence the name.
Status: Mutant Town Resident / Academy Regular
Type: Canon
Physical Description:
Remy’s style could best be summed up as ruffled; in a good way of course. Remy’s shoulder length brown/auburn hair mostly lays unkempt, except when in uniform due to his headdress. His most shocking features, and generally the only indication of his mutation, are the ruby irises resting on a pitch-black sclera. Most people find themselves drawn into his crimson gaze, often times adding to the mysterious personality he likes to promote. The Cajun seems to maintain a constant form of light 5 o’clock shadow adding to his rugged feel.
LeBeau enjoys cultivating his tall, dark, and handsome persona --- and he does fit the bill. Standing at 6’2”, he has a good vertical advantage on most people and though most would assume that at his height he would be lanky, that’s not quite the case. Gambit enjoys regular and rigorous exercise, and coupled with the accelerated metabolism, he has an athletic build much like a runner. Well toned, the Cajun is a far cry from a Rambo type as his physique is more suited for speed and agility (though he does pack a good hook). Despite his profession’s natural inclination towards the nighttime, Remy manages to keep a year round tan developed in part due to earlier days in New Orleans.
Gambit’s street clothes are generally picked for comfort, and he’s usually found in either jeans and a plain shirt, or something baggy and loose fitting such as cargo pants and a shirt. For a uniform, LeBeau enlists the help of his former affiliation and wears a black “sneak suit”. Typically fingerless gloves and a belt with many pouches to store his cards and various trinkets he collects offset this uniform. Remy is almost never seen without his trademark dark brown trench-coat. As an extension of himself, LeBeau’s coat pockets contain the untold stories of his thievery; laden with various objects of interest that he’s collected over the years.
Notable accessories include the multitude of card decks in sleeve, belt, and coat holsters strategically located throughout his outfit at any given time.
Mutation/Powers:
Interkinetic Power: This allows him to produce bio-kinetic energy within his body and use it to convert any inorganic object's potential energy into kinetic energy on contact. This makes the object highly volatile and explosive. The mass of the object affects the explosiveness that can be obtained since it means that there’s more potential energy to be converted. He generally prefers smaller objects as larger objects take more time to "charge" and are harder to throw with accuracy. Plus this is usually more than enough power to take out most foes and if he wants, Gambit can also partially charge an object to reduce the amount of energy released. This makes him exceptionally powerful if need be with the only limitations being time, Gambit's will, and moving the object to the target.
Gambit usually charges objects by touching them with his hands (sometimes through gloves, even ones with all the fingers intact). But he can use other parts of his body to charge objects too. Internal energy also grants him heightened agility and creates static interference that shields his mind from detection by psychics.
Hypnotic Charm: Allows him to exert subtle influence over sentient minds, compelling them to believe what he says and agree with his suggestions. There have been implications that it could be empathic in nature and the exact strength of it is unknown. When the Cajun was first introduced, it was hinted that Gambit could possibly hypnotize people with words or body language.
Weaknesses:
Gambit’s biggest weaknesses include gambling and women. This means a trip to Las Vegas would probably be fatal to the roguish Cajun. LeBeau loves a good challenge, and as an avid poker player, money has the tendency to disappear when he gets into a good swing. This isn’t to say he isn’t a good gambler; it’s more that he doesn’t know when to quit. The woman weakness is quite simple; as a bonafide flirt, there are no boundaries for love (or at the very least a one night stand) and he’ll go out of his way to woo the pretty ladies regardless of affiliation.
LeBeau can be brash and reckless, often running headfirst into danger once his emotions are stirred up. His fast talking approach to everything often ends up putting him in tight situations that even his silver tongue cannot get him out of.
Finally, Remy’s past has the uncanny ability to rear its head every now and then, making the normally jovial Cajun antisocial. Due to the guilt he feels about his participation in the Morlock Massacre, these periods of instability are characterized by brooding and a much more serious Gambit, often rendering him incapable of functioning normally.
Personality:
Gambit’s charm is noticeable one of the more defining portions of his personality. His thick New Orleans accent, and his lazy Southern vibes produce a curious effect on people nearby, easily giving him the ability to strike up a conversation and earn someone’s trust at a moment’s notice. Remy is seen as easy going and charismatic, basically the kind of person anyone would want to have on their side. In privacy though, LeBeau harbors his own demons, choosing not to share his troubles with other and simply dealing with them on his own time. Simply put, his extroverted tendencies make him the center of attention and he does a good job of managing his outward appearance in contrast to his more cynical inner thoughts.
There’s no line Gambit isn’t willing to cross if it gets him what he wants, and he doesn’t mind downplaying himself and looking weak, afraid, trapped, or hesitant if it means opponents may underestimate him. Despite Remy’s more gung-ho approach, a trait that most - don’t have in common with him, LeBeau plays the game of chance and opportunity, always attentive and making the crucial observations that might give him the upper hand. Remy has likened himself to a modern day Robin Hood, taking on the position of the Gentleman Thief. Even though he is a thief at heart, LeBeau’s exploits with the - have him to alter his main targets to criminals and those with enough money to spare.
The Cajun’s quick wit and sarcasm are a testament to his remarkable oratory skills and only the tip of his silver tongue. He has a way of telling people what they want to hear, and securing as much information as he can about others without giving up too much about himself. Conniving, mischievous, and manipulative, Gambit is pretty much the disproving factor of the phrase “actions speak louder than words” as his words are often enough to get him out of tight spots and even win a fight before it even begins.
In spite of his loner nature, LeBeau’s loyalty runs deep once you’ve earned his trust. He will do everything he can possibly do to protect friends and teammates, often blaming himself for critical mistakes. On the flipside, Gambit is ready to take the credit for an improvised success not bothering to convey his thoughts to others as he formulates his own plan and waits for the opportune moment to enact a strategy. He may be cocky at times, but he believes he has the ability to back up his words and hardly ever steps down from a good challenge.
On that note, the Cajun is a thrillseeker interested in keeping a rush of adrenaline and indulging in the earthly pleasures of gambling, smoking, drinking, and womanizing. The Cajun is confident and charismatic, and is always ready to drop in his two cents on any situation. He lives for the excitement and thrill of the game, the adrenaline rush, loves the company of interesting women, and is an accomplished flirt. Constantly searching for opportunities to test his limits and blur the line between good and bad. This ambiguity sometimes sparks distrust, especially among more senior members of the - staff, but it also manages to pique the curiosity of others and allows Remy to position himself much better to reap what benefits may await.
Family/Friends:
Jean-Luc LeBeau (adoptive father)
Bella Donna Boudreaux (wife, separated)
Henri LeBeau (foster brother, deceased),
Julien Boudreaux (brother-in-law, deceased)
Rebekah Essex (former love interest)
Suki Lorence Hagawa (object of mutual aggression)
History:
Remy LeBeau, abandoned at birth because of his glowing red eyes, was homeless for a good portion of his childhood. However after learning of the orphan with the demon eyes, New Orleans Thieves’ Guild took LeBeau into their custody due to a prophecy with reference to Le Diable Blanc saying that he would reunite the Thieves’ and Assassins’ Guilds (because naturally thieves and assassins don’t mix).
Under the guidance of the Thieves’ Guild, Remy was already a skilled thief by the age of ten, and he attempted to pick-pocket Jean-Luc LeBeau. Instantly taking an interest in the young boy, LeBeau took Remy off the streets and adopted him as his own son. As part of the peace pact between rival guilds, Remy and Bella-Donna Bourdeaux (granddaughter of the Assassin’s Guild patriarch) were arranged to marry; to unite the guilds and ensure peace between them. However, Bella-Donna’s brother, Julien, objected the arrangement or the wedding and challenged Remy to a duel. Remy was unwilling to fight, however, the Remy was eventually forces to killed Julien in self-defense. Naturally this didn’t go over well with the Assassins’ Guild, and there was no alternative but for Remy to flee in order to preserve the peace agreement.
Aided by his mutant power to charge objects with explosive energy, Remy plied his skills as a master thief while he wandered the world. At one point Remy’s powers began to flare up suddenly and he approached the master geneticist Mr. Sinister for help in controlling his powers. Sinister removed some of Remy's brain tissue to reduce his power levels, thus affording him a much greater degree of control. Now in Sinister’s debt, Remy was charged with assembling the team called the Marauders. Remy was kept in the dark about the true goal of the Marauders (Sinister would then employ the Marauders to massacre the underground mutant community of Morlocks). When he finally did realize what he had done, Remy attempted to stop the massacre but was almost killed by then Marauder Sabretooth. However, he did manage to save the young Morlock girl who would become the X-Man named Marrow. The Morlock Massacre sickened Gambit, both physically and mentally, and afterwards he spent much time trying to make up for his mistake.
Sometime after the Morlock Massacre, he came to the rescue of a de-aged Storm, who was on the run at the time from the Shadow King and then Nanny. Once they returned to the mansion and Storm was restored to her proper age, she invited him to return to the Institute with her. With the prospect of free food and bed, Remy gladly accepted.
From then on, Gambit remained on and off with the Institute Crew as a fringe member of the team whenever their goals lined up to his liking. His “romantic” entanglement with Rebekah Essex produced a kid and abundant hard feelings, mirroring his status as an on and off X-man. The Cajun also maintains a mutually shared annihilation fixation on Suki Lorence Hagawa as a result of his dealings with Rebekah. Gambit currently resides in a Mutant Town apartment complex, though rumors have already begun circulating that the roguish Cajun may return to the Academy.
RP Sample: (Since ya’ll got an original DP sample before, you’re just gonna have to settle for an old Gambit post I had laying around. (Well technically ya’ll don’t have to settle for it; y’know being higher up on the chain of command and all, but you wouldn’t do that to a poor and meek member now would you?))
Old habits die-hard…
Being a natural thief, Remy LeBeau was always aware of the value of anything around him. He always made the first move, whether or not the other participants knew it. His trained eyes scanned the hustle and bustle of the New Orleans streets as he walked. He moved with a good idea of where he was going. His coat flowed behind him as the wind picked up slightly.
The white suit caught his eyes.
The man had stepped out of a nice car, really nice in fact. He’s jes beggin’ for some attention… Remy inspected the man, noting the bulge in his right pocket, which was most likely a wallet. The sun glinted off the designer watch, from the distance it looked as if it were studded with diamonds. It looked like it probably ran him a few thousand dollars to get, probably even the only one of its kind. Remy didn’t need the money, but the challenge would be nice. The pockets were stretched a bit tight there the man was…well fed. He was halfway to the man in the suit when something else caught his eye.
Do my eyes deceive me? The Cajun grinned roguishly and made an abrupt turn short of the white suit and crossed the street to one of the street side cafes. The woman at the table was attractive, to say the least. And alone…
“Dere’s no reason I ken think o’ to explain, why you’re sittin’ here all by your lonesome, chérie,” Remy said, his accent heavy but understandable leaning across the rail between him and the table. He summoned up one of his charming smiles and delivered it gracefully.
The girl barely suppressed a smile as she looked at him.
The Cajun’s red eyes, took in every aspect of the girl, she was definitely a twenty on a scale from one to ten. He held up his right hand, and with a quick and stylish flick of his wrist, the Ace of Hearts was between his gloved fingers. He fired out another stunning smile as he tossed it over to the girl. Gliding lazily, it made it’s way to the girl, landing right in front of her.
“Why don’ you let me remedy your problem?” he offered, another grin playing on his features. It had been a few days since his last romantic encounter. The Guild had its way of keeping the Cajun busy, and LeBeau was keen on finding something worth his free time.
The girl giggled and pointed at a man returning with two drinks.
“Ah…” Remy nodded, “Perhaps another time den, non?”
The guy arrived and gave Gambit a sideways look taking in his long hair, red eyes, and coat, “Is this guy bothering you…?” he asked the girl, suddenly trailing off at the sight of the Ace of Hearts. He looked from the girl to Gambit, finally setting a cold glare on the Cajun.
“Hey pal,” the man said making an effort to hide the anger rising in his voice, “Get lost.”
The Cajun raised an eyebrow, and moved his hair out of his eyes, rising to the challenge, “Sure you don’ need any help, homme? Seems to me dat you’re havin’ some trouble keepin’ your de lady satisfied.”
The taunt was childish, and wasn’t even worth the time, but that was how Gambit loved to play. And he was good at the game.
“Pal, you just sealed the deal. You wouldn’t want your face messed up I bet, so why don’t you just leave?” the man asked walking up. The low fence was the only thing keeping them from being in the same spot. He attempted to stare Remy down, though his threat to rearrange the Cajun’s face wasn’t empty.
Gambit looked past the man, and watched the girl who had a worried expression on, while sipping on the drink, “I see you got yourself a big beer, so dat means dere’s bound to be a headache in de mornin’. But I’ll let you choose whether dat headache’s from a hangover, or a concussion.”
Infuriated with this challenge to his masculinity, the guy struck out with a wide right hook. Years of instinct took over, and the Cajun easily sidestepped what would have been a sound blow. Another smile was playing on his features, as he shook his head, “C'est assez. Dat’s definitely no way to act, mon ami. Ain’t worth embarrassin’ yo’self in front o’de girl.” Gambit was unquestionably having fun, each comment he made only further angered the man, “Au revoir chérie,” he said taking one last look at the girl, followed by a quick wink. Then he turned his attention to the man, “Go buy dat girl somethin’ special homme.” He grinned and faded into the busy street before the man could lash out any further.

Any other information:
Gambit is a master thief. Hints place him as the best or one of the best in the Marvel Universe and quite capable of getting into, out of, and stealing almost anything without the use of his mutant powers. Gambit often wields a telescopic metal staff, is highly trained in martial arts and has incredible aim with throwing objects. He has the physical attributes of a body naturally built for constant motion (likely a permanent side-effect of his mutant powers), making him a superhumanly acrobatic fighter.
